I bought the book as I'd read the Summer diet booklet in The Mail On Sunday. I've followed the diet on two days (Tuesday & Thursday) for six weeks & have lost seven pounds so far. I only wanted to lose ten so will continue until I've lost that & then fast one day a week to maintain as recommended.
I've found this the best & most manageable diet. I eat healthily anyway but weight inevitably goes on around the middle as one gets older :( This diet seemed to offer the best results & I am so pleased with my weight loss so far.
I factor in some calories for milk so I can have a few cups of tea & coffee to keep me going. I find it easier & more filling to stick to protein & vegetables as they are filling & I eat plenty of dairy, fruit & carbs on non fasting days.
My fasting day is as follows:
Cup of tea for breakfast
Tea in work
Large bowl of homemade soup for lunch at noon(celery or carrot & coriander)
for snacks in afternoon when peckish...a hardboiled egg & crudités of carrot, cucumber, celery & cherry tomatoes
Evening meal of either salmon or chicken with lots of green beans & broccoli with a sweet chilli sauce
I have eaten well on other days...healthily but with the occasional apple crumble or small piece of cake. I usually save alcohol for the weekend... one bottle of shiraz over the 3 days.
The 5:2 is so manageable & it does feel beneficial to give the stomach a "rest" on two days. I'm surprised how easy the diet is to follow once you realise that it is no bad thing to let yourself feel a little hungry. Also as it's only two days it's so easy to fit around social occasions.
Best diet ever! :)
