I love my new Ipod
1 van 1 vinden dit nuttig I love my new Ipod Nano. It's so much better in terms of use and storage then my Creative Zen V Plus. I have practically all of my CD collection stored on my I-pod. The silver color is really sharp, I think it's the best color. It has a real metallic look to it. It's so thin it fits just about any pocket in my clothes. The sound is unbelievably good, and I've been able to jack it into my car stereo system as well as the kitchen sound system.

Shikira: She Wolf The Expanded Edition
1 van 1 vinden dit nuttig Shakira has traded her pop/rock roots for the electronic sounds of the disco. She delivers vocally, but the backing arrangements don't always have that Shakira feel. The studio accompaniment sounds a little too STUDIO on some tracks. I respect Shakira for branching out. I am biased toward the Oral Fixation and Laundry Service sound. The best of the "new" Shakira is "She Wolf" and "Give It Up To Me" which have enjoyed airplay as well as live performances on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" and a recent awards show. "Loba" is simply a Spanish language version of "She Wolf" and adds nothing new as the backup arrangement is the same. Conversely the Spanish "Años Luz with the same arrangement is more spicy. Some songs belong in the language Shakira wrote them in (Spanish) this is one of them.
I originally,gave this CD a Good rating. Well that's my Oral Fixation bias reflected. When viewed from a Dance Music perspective, She Wolf rates an Excellent or five stars on a none to five star scale.

A Joan Baez CD that is worth a re-issue
This is a reissue of a 1992 Virgin recording. The master tapes were made on analog equipment. Within the limitations of analog recording equipment the upgrade to digital on this CD is better than most. It is obvious that great care was taken to insure the highest audio quality as a digital reissue. Enough about the technical side.
I have been a fan of Joan Baez since being a young impressionable man of 18. I am 59 now, and am beyond delighted to discover and win this CD in auction. Joan sounds as good as she did the day she accidentally stepped on my hand with her bare foot at a peace demonstration In Point State Park, Pittsburgh Pa. That's going back to 1970 something. Not many singers retain their voice for this long.
There are many songs Joan sings backed up with what would be called an "un-plugged" band these days. Personally, I think acoustic says it better. Over her career, Joan has sung with every ting from her single guitar to a full symphony orchestra. She's a capable musician and singer regardless of accompaniment. Acoustic with just the occasional addition of an electric guitar or strings suites Joan best. That old saying about "too many cooks" applies here. Too many instruments and too much electric backup distracts the listener from hearing the fine intonations, timbre and Joan's excellent dynamics when she sings. That can't be said about many folk/pop singers where more instruments are better as they cover up the singer's inadequacies.
Favorite songs are "Play Me Backwards", "Amsterdam" and the highly poetic imagistic "The Dream Song". It doesn't get any better then this.
