Great performer, Low price
The COMPAQ EVO N600C LAPTOP New in 2002/3/4 and still hot! Love the professional build quality unlike PCWORLD modern built down to price models. These laptops were VERY EXPENSIVE TOP NOTCH CORPORATE MODELS when new. GREAT POINTS; Upgrade to XP with free drivers on the HP website. Hard disk, memory and optical drive simple plug in user upgradeable. Expect 3 hour battery life with good battery, fantastic 4 1/2 hour battery life with new battery. Available with 866MHz 1.066GHz and 1.2GHz processors, fastest is best but little noticeable difference between 1 and 1.2 Ghz models. Has serial port, great for GPS and communications users. BAD POINTS only USB1 on board but overcome this with a cheap USB2 PCMCIA card. Tips: Needs absolute minimum 256 RAM to work under XP; 1GB max RAM needs 2 x 512 modules @ approx Ebay £25 each. Almost any 144 pin PC133 RAM is OK but must be CL3 synch unbuffered RAM, look for IBM spec FRU4655 modules. Any 12.7mm multibay optical drive (not multibay 2) works under XP, CD thru DVD writer. Any size PATA/IDE 2.5 inch laptop drive works when mounted in caddy. Usually available with a 1024 x 768 screen or the rare and much prized 1400 x 1050 high resolution screen. SUMMARY: A powerful professional and reliable full featured laptop with great battery life from a front line manufacturer with amazing user upgradeability. PAY about £150 Ebay for 1.2GHZ/512ram/30GB/CD/charger/guaranteed good battery machines and extra for more ram/HD/CDRW upgrades etc. BEWARE Ebay sales without guaranteed battery life (most sellers duck this issue and it costs £30 to get a replacement battery from China!). Also watch out for low spec 866MHz/20Gb/128MB components flouted as high Spec. FINAL WORD these are great machines BUT don't forget are 4/5 year old without warranty. Fantastic modern machines are available around £300 with warranty. Good Luck from ASIA_UK Contact me for customised Evo N600c machines.

Heavy and feels vulnerable
Like USB2, Firewire, can have 15" screen. Dislike it feels flimsy, hinges and lid prone to breakage and fracture. Look at n610c as a 14" alternative with similar performance but lighter, stronger feeling.

At this price, why wouldn't you buy it?
So this is about $10 or £7. It has an 8 digit display but unknown accuracy. Use it as you would an old fashioned wavemeter - it is an indication of frequency not an absolute measurement. The build quality is excellent. My gripes are;- 1) there is no known documentation how to use it so you have to find out for yourself. 2) The RF input connector is identical to the power connector ??????? Why would you do that? I got them swapped first try!! The input connector is actually quite useless and your first job should be to replace it with a proper socket or a short coax cable with a BNC on the end. As a dinosaur engineer the open PCB format is deeply disturbing so I'm still trying to find a simple way to box it up - but there are no boxes this shape. I also recently bought the little power meter with a tiny TFT screen - my idea was to have two cheap modules mounted together which would be capable of measuring frequency and power - a valuable bit of test gear!
