Susy has made her home the little enclave of San Pedro. Through flavors and memories, the ladies of Sea Foam Lane will discover more about themselves during the holiday season. When a sports car is left in the charming cul-de-sac of Sea Foam Lane a few days prior to Christmas, five of the six ladies living in the houses on this lovely street go into a frenzy. Only Susy, the newest in the neighborhood, seems to not share their excitement. Susy is more interested in what she is going to do during her days off, and the upcoming Christmas dinner that she is hosting for her neighbors. Preparing traditional Mexican tamales gives Susy the opportunity to recount memories of her childhood from the family excursions to visit her abuelita Amelia-memories of flavors and aromas found in a traditional Mexican kitchen. During the last days of December Susy will need to face the past. Her neighbors will discover a secret, and the mystery of the sports car will be revealed. Tamales with Friends is a novella that transports the reader via Susy's cooking from the town of San Pedro on the California coast, where the ladies of Sea Foam Lane live, to the house of Amelia Guzmán in central Mexico where some of Susy's happiest memories took place.

All the basic Bhutanese dishes are presented, But I have been there 8 time and cooked with families, so I am used to the heat! No discussion of chilies versus Ema is presented. Also the selection of cheeses is not really discussed. I don't think Bhutanese in the US use Gouda as a substitute!
