Being from the American south (New Orleans)--as opposed to Holland or some place colder than Louisiana, upon first reading I did not know what a snowdrop was! Lol. So now I know. (It is a bulbous plant widely cultivated in Europe that bears drooping white flowers during late winter--"snowy time" for us childlike adults.) This did not deter me from enjoying the book, the lovely moon, the sleeping owl and the clearly illustrated wintery landscapes and snow-laden greenery that all indicate a slowing down of life for all of us--providing the deepest quiet, that recess before the busiest time of the year to come--spring.
