Synopsis
Beautiful lyrical prose of Wilde gorgeously rendered by one of comic art's masters Arguably the most famous and beloved of Oscar Wilde's nine fairy tales, this particular rendition stands apart from the others due to its brilliant illustrations by a master of comic art. After dying young, the Happy Prince's soul inhabits a beautiful ruby-encrusted statue covered in gold leaf which is perched high above the city. But when he sees the poverty, misery and desperateness of his people, he enlists the help of a barn swallow to remove the gilding of his statue and shower the riches on his people. In the spring, the townspeople are saved, but find only a stripped down and dull statue alongside a dead swallow. The remains are tossed into an ash heap, but an emissary of God recognizes their sacrifice, and escorts them into the gardens of Heaven. Perfect for middle school students as an introduction to the world-famous author, the dazzling illustrations in this book suit the timeless writings of Wilde., Now in paperback! The Happy Prince is arguably the most famous and well-loved of Oscar Wilde's nine fairy tales. The Happy Prince has died young and his soul inhabits a beautiful ruby encrusted statue. From his perch high above the city he is witness to all the poverty, misery and hopelessness in which his people have been living. When a small barn swallow in flight to the warm south ahead of the approaching winter stops to rest upon the statue the Happy Prince prevails upon him to delay his travels in order to remove his gold leaf a piece at a time.

Thanks so much to seller for the offering; new, wrapped outside and cards wrapped inside. Exactly as described, perfect, excellent shipping, fast. I had looked at these some time ago, and regretted not buying them. I am absolutely thoroughly thrilled now that the price is down and these are perfect size for my hands. I LOVE the art, the feel, the fact it is in an ACTUAL KEEPSAKE BOX to protect them. I look so forward to using these for all their joy and information. Thanks again!
