This is a small module that can be fitted to your Playstation 3 that can be programmed to increase the speed of the fan in your console and therefore give faster airflow than the console would otherwise provide.

There are eight modes of operation, plus a self-test facility, selectable by a single press-button switch. The three LED lights give a visual indication of the mode selected and whether or not the module is in program mode.

The modes of operation are as follows:-

  • Mode 1 : Increases the fan speed by 25% of the speed set by the console.
  • Mode 2 : Increases the fan speed by 50% of the speed set by the console.
  • Mode 3 : Increases the fan speed by 75% of the speed set by the console.
  • Mode 4 : Increases the fan speed by 100% of the speed set by the console - doubles the speed.
  • Mode 5 : Sets the minimum speed of the fan to 25% of full speed
  • Mode 6 : Sets the minimum speed of the fan to 50% of full speed
  • Mode 7 : Sets the minimum speed of the fan to 75% of full speed
  • Mode 8 : Sets the minimum speed of the fan to 100% of full speed - full speed, all the time!

For modes 5-7, if the console needs more cooling than the minimum set by the module, then the console's speed will take over.

Self-Test

There is also a "Self-Test" facility, which checks for the presence of the signal from the console before briefly entering each mode in turn. Finally, it simulates controller failure conditions which demonstrate the correct functioning of the module

Fail-Safe!

Modern components are very reliable these days and failures are rare but they can occasionally happen. This module has been designed to be as fail-safe as possible.

In the event that the console's fan signal fails, the module will drive the fan at full speed. Similarly, should the module itself fail, the design is such that in most instances the fan will continue to spin at high speed, therefore still provide cooling for your console.

These features mean that in the unlikely event of failure your Playstation is still protected from overheating.

 

The module is built on a high quality professionally made pcb and uses very reliable surface mount technology. It is easy to fit: no soldering required, just unplug the fan, plug this module in its place and then plug the fan into the module. Fitting details will be included with the module.

You will need to open the case in order to fit the module, so please be aware that this will invalidate your warranty.

There is a seller in the USA who bought one of my modules and tried to reverse engineer it. When that failed, he asked me to give him my design files. That also failed, so he resorted to making a potentially damaging "mod" consisting of nothing more than a potentiometer, stealing my descriptions and adding untrue defamatory references to my modules.

Simply fitting a potentiometer connects 12 volts to circuitry designed to work at 3.3 volts to control the fan's speed. My modules drive the fan with the correct PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal, exactly the same as the PS3 console itself sends to the fan, and so causes no extra strain.

My modules are not cheap, but they work perfectly, as described and are well made. Quality! Take a look at the feedback I have received for my modules
